For several days, weeks, months or even years, you are probably too busy or has no time to play your Nintendo Switch. One day, you’ve tried to turn it on and charge it. Unexpectedly, your Nintendo Switch didn’t turn on and was stuck on a Black Charging Screen. The only display shows on the screen is a low battery indicator on the upper left corner. You might be think it’s just something to do with the battery, maybe so depleted that it didn’t turn on and just need charging.

So you’ve decided to leave it for a charge in a couple of hours. You turn it again, and boom, still stuck on the black charging screen. This time, you are a little bit worried and may be thinking that there is a problem with your Nintendo Switch hardware.

Well, Nintendo Switch requires some decent amount of battery charge for it to boot up due to its hardware components that are too powerful that it takes a lot of energy. For this reason, the switch won’t turn on when the battery was depleted for a longer period of time, and some might have minor issue that is similar to yours.

How to Fix Stuck on Black Charging Screen

Charge your Nintendo Switch via USB. If you suspect that your dock is broken, or you have a Nintendo Switch model that doesn’t use a dock such as the Nintendo Switch Lite, you can still charge it via its USB-C connection. Try a soft reset. Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds and then release it. Sometimes, your Nintendo Switch gets frozen, just due to a drained battery. Therefore, when you get Nintendo Switch frozen issue, the first thing you should do is to check the console's battery usage. If the battery is sufficient, please move to the next method.

To fix it. Follow our step by step guide below.

  1. First, you need to remove the Joycons from your Nintendo Switch.
  2. If your Nintendo Switch is connected from a dock, remove it as well as the adapter charger.
  3. Now, charge your switch directly with the adapter charger and wait for about 10 to 15 minutes to get some just for boot up.
  4. Then turn off your switch by holding the power button for 12 seconds until the screen turns off.
  5. Remove the charging cable from your switch and wait for about 3 to 5 seconds to cool it down.
  6. Turn it on again by pressing the power button.
  7. Once it’s turned on, your switch should now proceed to the Home Screen and shows a reminder message saying it needs to be charged.
  8. Immediately charge your switch and it will now starts to increase its charging capacity.
  9. Done!

From now on, you’re good to go and your Nintendo Switch won’t go back to the Black Charging Screen – unless you decided deplete its battery again. Once it is at least 15% in charging capacity, you can put back the Joycons to your switch.

To summarize the workaround, the Switch Dock with Joycons attached is not enough to charge your system when it is so depleted and it requires direct charging for it to work.
